Spray Material Reference:
Fungal Diseases (Blackspot, Powdery Mildew)
- Funginex - Spray at 7 to 14 day intervals, for control
- Daconil 2787 - Spray at 7 to 14 day intervals, for control (also good for Downey Mildew)
- Fungi-Gard - Spray at 7 to 14 day intervals, for control
- Immunox or Immunex - Spray at 10 day intervals, best for Powdery Mildew (product name changed)
- Rose Defense - Spray at 7 to 10 intervals, multi-purpose
Insects
- ROSE MIDGE
- Ortho-Klor - Promising control in test gardens
- Orthene - Controls small infestations
- APHIDS AND MOST OTHER INSECTS
- Orthene - Probably most effective all-over insecticide. New formulation doesn't have that same strong smell
- Malathion (50 Plus) - Old stand by, use only when necessary
- Diazinon - Broad-spectrum insecticide, being removed from market
- Insecticidal Soap - Safers, spot control only
- Bug-Stop - Spectricide, Pyrethrum based, Broad-spectrum (contains cyflutherin)
- SPIDER MITES
- Avid - 2 applications at 4 - 7 day intervals. Very effective, very expensive
- Isotox IV - Also for insects, use as needed
- THRIPS
- Orthene - 2 - 3 day intervals, mist blooms as needed
Sprayer Types:
- COMPRESSION TYPE - Two common types. One uses garden hose to pressurize, the other uses hand pump. Both are good and efficient. Add spray material to measured amount of water.
- HOSE-END TYPE - Attaches to end of garden hose. Uses venturi to siphon spray material from bottle. Need back-flow prevention devise on water line. Not accurate or efficient. Use only for liquid fertilizers.
